LOCATIONS: At present, Aberdeen Drilling Consultants Ltd. work in collaboration with Aberdeen Drilling School Ltd. to deliver this course in the UK and Middle East as well as Wood Group M & O to deliver the course in Australia. Essentially there are two parts:-

Part One – The Online Course Candidate is sent log-in details for the ADC Virtual Academy which will enable access to the course content and on-line examination.

This can be completed anywhere in the world where there is a broadband internet connection to your computer – fixed line, wireless or mobile. Learn at your desk, offshore, on the move or at home – wherever suits your schedule at any given time.

This course is truly flexible. The course content is available to every registered candidate and candidates will receive all updates instantaneously when they are launched. Candidates can also return to the course at any time to remind themselves of any aspect previously covered for a 6 month period.

The e-learning aspect of the course is the equivalent of a 20 hour classroom course teaching around the same IWCF Level 2 syllabus however candidates can work through the course that best suits their own pace.

Access is granted to the course material for a period of 6 months from the date on which the login details for the Virtual Academy are issued to the candidate or Training Coordinator via email.

Part Two – The Classroom Exam
After successfully completing the on-line course in Part One, candidates will then attend an accredited centre in Aberdeen (or any of the exam centres shown in the map above), where they must sit an invigilated IWCF examination. To book an examination, the candidate or Training Administrator must give 10 days’ notice prior to the desired exam date. Candidates can be registered for the IWCF Level 2 Drilling Well Control exam by contacting either Aberdeen Drilling School (UK/UAE) or Wood Group M & O (Aus/NZ).

This IWCF invigilated exam involves two papers, one on equipment (1 hour) and a Principles & Procedures paper (1.5 hours). The pass mark for the final examination is 70% for both papers.

HOW DO I KNOW THE COURSE IS RIGHT FOR ME? We would always suggest discussing any training course with your line manager and/or your company specific training department. The virtual Academy is designed around ADC’s core business of Rig Inspection see

ADC can now offer an internationally recognised customised qualification in “Understanding Rig Inspection,” which is an online course which delivers an understanding of commonly used drilling equipment, the fundamentals of well control plus the comprehension and management of dropped objects. The "Understanding Rig Inspection" qualification, developed by Aberdeen Drilling Consultants, is a Customised Award certificated and quality assured by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA), Scotland's national awarding body. This is the first e-learning Customised Award to be credit rated on the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) by SQA.

The Customised Award has been formally confirmed at SCQF Level 6 with 7 credit points. This award is comparable to other Level 6 qualifications including a number of Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs) and some Professional Development Awards (PDAs).

CAN I RECEIVE FUNDING FOR ANY OF THE COURSES? The award complies with the minimum standards set out by the Enhanced Learning Credits Administration Services ELCAS. The MOD's Enhanced Learning Credits Scheme (ELC) is an initiative to promote lifelong learning amongst members of the Armed Forces. The ELC scheme provides financial support in the form of a single up-front payment in each of a maximum of three separate financial years

COST: Please contact the ADC Virtual Academy to obtain information regarding the price of obtaining the qualification in “Understanding Rig Inspection” and for information on how to enrol.
